Inspiration B&B: eco practices

As part of our commitment to the environment, our family, and our global community, we practice the following eco-conscious activities:

1) We have reduced waste and recycling output with a focus on Zero Waste.

2) We participate in bartering and other groups such as FreeCycle to prevent items from going into the landfill.

3) We conduct workshops and write articles on social and environmental issues.

4) We grow the majority of our own organic produce which sustains us until the next growing season.

5) We conserve water through the use of multiple rain barrels which also water our gardens.

6) We have cut our energy use to 1/3 of the National Average through conservation, avoiding Phantom Loads, and modifying our home to absorb or reflect heat as needed.

7) We raise our own natural, free-range chickens for meat and eggs.

"Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children.  We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children."

Ancient Native Proverb

8) We use biodegradable and non-chemically based cleaning agents.  We are 99% chemical free from shampoos to cosmetics to laundry detergent.

9) We promote nature, the rhythm, the cycles, the energy flows through a variety of practices such as Feng Shui, Biointensive/Biodiversity, lunar planting, organic gardening, companion planting, etc.

10) When we must buy -- we buy local, when we can't buy local we buy recycled/reused, when we can't buy recycled or reused, we find a way to support a good cause through our purchases.

11) We use dioxin-free, acid-free unbleached copy paper for our businesses.  We use 100% green energy to host our web sites and our email.

12) We belong to various groups and chair committees with the primary focus being on conscious leadership as it relates to the environment.

13) We are working on converting our pool to an eco-pool.  In the meantime, we have created a pool that requires minimal chlorine and has less of an impact on us and the environment.

We are not die-hard, we have had to find a balance.  We are not as 'green' as we would like, however, we are making good choices and making a difference our way.  We hope that you find our choices to be in alignment with what you are looking for, and choose to be our guest for a weekend or longer!   Thank you for visiting our site, please come and visit our home.
